  3. The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was 
  4. nearly twice as large and weighed nearly 
  5. three times as much as the tiny Heinkel 
  6. He 162 Volksjager.  Had they met in 
  7. combat, the results would certainly 
  8. have been interesting.  The rugged 
  9. construction and heavy firepower of the 
  10. Thunderbolt would have made it a tough 
  11. opponent for the Volksjager.  The speed 
  12. and spritely maneuverability of the 
  13. Heinkel would have given it a performance 
  14. edge in most areas, although the P-47 was 
  15. able to dive faster.

  19. On a fighter sweep from your forward 
  20. base at Babenhausen, your flight of P-47s 
  21. encounters a squadron of the new He 162 
  22. Salamanders taking off from Wiesbaden 
  23. Luftwaffe airfield.  Attack the jets before 
  24. they can gain enough altitude and speed to 
  25. engage you successfully.  Be careful not 
  26. to fly too closely to the enemy antiaircraft 
  27. guns at their airfield, and watch for other 
  28. Luftwaffe aircraft operating in this area.
